Mont Belvieu recently celebrated the swearing-in of new city officials, marking a significant moment in the city’s ongoing development. The ceremony underscored the community’s dedication to effective governance and progress.
New and Returning Council Members
During the ceremony, Councilmember Mike Pomykal was sworn in for another term, reinforcing his status as the longest-serving councilmember in Mont Belvieu’s history. A lifelong resident and Barbers Hill High School alumnus, Pomykal’s continued service reflects his deep commitment to the community.
Joining the council is Mark Ables, who was elected unopposed to Position 2. Ables brings 18 years of experience from the Mont Belvieu Planning and Zoning Commission, offering valuable insights into the city’s planning and development.
New Municipal Judge Appointed
The city also welcomed Judge Michael Wheat as the new municipal judge. Previously serving as the city’s associate judge since July 2025 and as Chambers County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2, Judge Wheat steps into this role following the dedicated service of Judge Larry Cryer, who served since 2000.

The city has seen a surge in population, nearly doubling since 2010, accompanied by new residential developments and a thriving local economy.
